How Did This Book Come To Be?

This book began as a work of love, created to communicate God’s design for love and marriage to our two children as they reached adolescence.

Although we had, in many ways, been teaching our children about God’s plan for love and marriage throughout childhood, we were cautious about presenting detailed “birds & bees” information before absolutely necessary.  Our desire was to protect their innocence as long as possible, but to pre-empt their receiving information from other sources first.  When we decided it was time to talk with our oldest son about his sexuality in greater detail, we went looking for a resource that would fit the following criteria:

• Solid, comprehensive scriptural foundation
• Interactive format – not just a book we would send our child off on his own to read
• Study component which would encourage our child to internalize biblical values and come to own them for himself

Because we could not find anything readily usable like this on the current Christian market, we ended up putting together a series of family studies that fulfilled this criteria on our own.

When a friend asked to see the studies with the idea that he might want to use them with his own children, we thought, “Great!  Why reinvent the wheel?  It would be good if God could use this study to benefit his kids too.”  Eventually, it got passed around among several Christian families, and it was a blessing to see how God used the hours we had invested in the original creation of the studies to reap dividends in the lives of other families.

But then God blew open the doors of opportunity – not for us, because we had nothing to gain – but for His glory and His purposes.  Through Search for the Truth Publications and our local Pregnancy Resource Center director, God gave us what we did not have on our own – a vision for the future, a vision for what God might choose to do through the study if it could be published as a book.  And, in His infinite wisdom, God has now afforded the two of us the opportunity to be used of Him to touch the lives of other parents and children who also desire to acknowledge and honor God in this significant area of their lives.

We believe that, in today’s sex-saturated culture, which has fallen prey to Satan’s lies about sex and love, the Church has been called to preserve a remnant who will remain faithful to God’s design for marriage and sexual love.  We have no idea what God ultimately has in store for this resource, but our prayer is that He will use it to convict, equip and empower parents to reclaim their privilege and duty to teach and train their children about God’s perfect design and purposes for sexuality in their lives.  May He use these studies for His purposes and be glorified in the life of every parent and teen whom He leads to this book.
